Frequently Asked Questions

Why work with Juno Capital Strategy, LLC?

Financial planning and advisory has long felt the exclusive province of few. Why is that?

In my experience, many do not seek out financial planning and/or advisory services because of one or a combination of these reasons:

  1. lack of education about what it is, how it works, and how it may impact us;

  2. fear of judgment for not knowing;

  3. seeing financial education or planning only as an expense;

  4. or downright mistrust of those offering it.

The above four reasons compose a large part of why I created Juno Capital Strategy, LLC. Give us a try, because we genuinely care about your well being. Not just your finances, but how those finances enable and power your overall well being. We do that by offering engaging education on a variety of financial and finance-adjacent topics.

We also want to help our colleagues offering financial services better understand the view from the client side of the table, to foster real client engagement, creating lasting relationships enjoyed by both parties.

Work with Juno Capital Strategy because we are not here to judge why, we are here to help all our clients understand what, who, when and how.

How are you compensated?

We are a fee for service coaching and consulting firm.

We offer a menu of fee-for-educational-services options that clients may choose the best option to fit their needs. On the business consulting side, ongoing relationships generate pricing benefits for B2B clients. How often you engage us depends on your needs, your goals and the best fit for your time and financial budgets.

Some important things we DO NOT DO:

  • We do not prepare or author planning guidance for individual clients.

  • We do not advise on investment selection.

  • We do not advise on insurance product selection.

  • We do not receive commissions, kickbacks, or trails of any kind, on our work.

  • We do not receive referral fees from any professional engaging with Juno Capital Strategy, LLC, with whom you may choose to work for planning, investment, accounting or legal work.

Our initial meeting for B2B clients is offered gratis, so you may get a sense of who we are, that we may both determine if Juno Capital Strategy will be a good fit for your education or consulting needs.

How does financial planning work, and why does Juno endorse it?

Financial Planning is a dynamic process, please see the below infograph illustrating the general process:

Should you elect to engage planning services with a practicing financial planner, we strongly encourage a thorough review of their Form ADV, filed with their state or federal regulatory body, for more detailed explanations of what their specific planning process may include, to evaluate against your specific planning needs and goals.

We endorse financial planning as a deliberate action considering your whole financial life, to address the comprehensive and interactive nature of your resources. While we do not endorse any planning professionals offering financial planning services, over others, we strongly believe in the power of financial planning and we are happy to share resources to help you in your search for a practicing planner.

Can you give a general idea of what financial planning includes?

Finances ultimately touch every aspect of our lives, for better or for worse. The CFP Board of Standards offers a comprehensive definition on their site, which I invite you to visit. What we share in our education about this topic addresses it this way: the process of financial planning seeks to identify and organize your resources in support of your lives. The process involves a multi-disciplinary assessment of where you are, where you want to be, and seeks to answer how to help you get there. As such, you can expect practicing financial planning professionals to review and analyze budgets, life goals, investment options and allocations for qualified accounts (IRAs, 401K, 403b, TSP), non-qualified accounts (checking, savings, timed deposits, TOD & POD accounts), insurance plans, education plans, retirement plan documents and options, cash flow and goal-based spending.

Some specialized, or niche planners may focus their practice on one, or just a few of the above mentioned planning topics. Or, they may take a specialized or focused approach to the planning process. Additionally, some may focus their practice on clients with specific needs or niche experiences and backgrounds.

How much time does planning take?

The complexity of your situation and the process used by your planner will ultimately determine the length of your engagement. We encourage all clients to review an advisor’s Form ADV for more details, and to ask any questions you may have about this aspect of their work.

Will you evaluate, update or write financial plans?

No, Juno Capital Strategy, LLC will not evaluate plans written by others, revise plans written by others or write financial plans, nor do we evaluate providers of financial plans.

What we do offer is education about terminology you may encounter in the planning process, the professionals you may encounter in the planning process, questions you may wish to consider in evaluating services and service providers, and where you can access resources to help you evaluate what best meets your needs.

If you need help finding resources in this space, please ask. We have a strong background in this area, and are happy to offer resources for your consideration. However, we will not endorse one provider over another, as we believe this eliminates the potential for conflicts of interest.

Will you manage assets?

No, Juno Capital Strategy, LLC will not manage portfolios or trade investment assets on your behalf. Nor do we evaluate the role investments may plan in any client’s financial strategy. Our focus is on education and consulting, that our clients may work with the investment custodian of their choosing, to execute trades and manage reporting on investment activities. We do not recommend specific investments, or investment providers. We believe this eliminates the potential for conflicts of interest.

Will you evaluate asset managers?

No, Juno Capital Strategy, LLC will not evaluate asset managers. Our focus is on education and consulting, to help clients understand and distinguish the types of asset managers, how they may be compensated, what are the potential limitations associated with different asset management options, that our clients may evaluate what works best for their needs, in building their team of professionals. If you need help finding resources in this space, please ask. We have a strong background in this area, and are happy to offer resources for your consideration. However, we will not endorse one provider over another, as we believe this eliminates the potential for conflicts of interest.

What does fiduciary mean, and why might you wish to work with one?

The fiduciary standard holds practitioners to strict legal standards that can be summarized as: never placing the well being of the firm or the practitioner above the well being of the client. Disclosing and addressing any perceived or actual conflicts of interest, immediately and proactively. It is very different from the suitability standard, which also exists, to guide certain financial engagements. While I do not author financial plans, or make investment selections, as a Certified Financial Planner ™, I am still bound to the fiduciary standard. I choose to maintain my professional license in good standing, in support of my personal commitment to offer unbiased education and consulting, in the financial arena.

Can you serve in my estate plan?

While Juno Capital Strategy, LLC is operating as a fiduciary for the purposes of education and consulting, we do not serve any roles in client estate plans. If you find you do not have individuals whom you can name in these critical roles, we encourage you to seek out an institutional or corporate option, such as a trust company. Not all trust companies are willing, or able to serve in all capacities. If you need help finding resources in this space, please ask. We have a strong background in this area, and are happy to offer resources for your consideration. However, we will not endorse one provider over another, as we believe this eliminates the potential for conflicts of interest.

What does Juno mean? Is it an acronym? Why did you pick that name?

Juno was a Roman goddess of antiquity, one of the three original gods of Ancient Rome. This Queen of the gods had a number of important roles, chief among them was protector of funds. I am a finance nerd who loves art and antiques. Part of my “why?”: protection, is a key theme of my work. Juno was one powerful goddess, and a name was born, in perfect harmony with my “why?”.

What is your story, beyond your resume in “About Us”?

Another important reason I created Juno Capital Strategy, LLC, is because I see myself in the clients I serve. I happen to be a single mother to two beautiful children. I am a member of the so-called “sandwich generation”, which inspired one of my earliest notes. And, there is no existing company offering what I sought, professionally, and needed personally. So, I decided to try to build it. I have two elderly dogs: one selectively deaf, one selectively sedate, and both selectively obedient. I just moved the five of us to an old home in a new state, over sixty brutal days, in the summer of 2021. I spent a year working to bring Juno into practice, undergoing numerous revisions along the way, and have settled on a direction I believe takes best advantage of my skills and experience. In short, I believe too much in what Juno can do, to give up, entirely. In time away from my desk, or painfully slow restoration efforts on my 140 year old house, I love antiquing, trying to grow flowers in my yard, and striving to stay awake long enough to read more than 2 pages of my current book, after my kids go to bed.
